Find Membership

This utility might be useful if you have an environemt where you have users included directly in local groups on different servers. If you want to make a report of all groups where a user is included on a collection of servers, this is the tool to use.

In the upper left inputfield, specify which useraccount you want to search for. You can skip the domainpart but since the userid might not be unique throughout all your domains it is recommended to include it.

You have two searchmodes that you can choose from:

In order to get accurate results by using the dumpfile, always generate a new one before using the Find Membership tools. The dumpfile is generated by using the Dump Local Groups utility. If this file is generated on a regular basis the dumpfile might be the option to use for you. If you want to use the dumpfile or do a direct search depends heavily on the size of your network environment. In large corporations it is normally necessary to use the dumpfile to get reasonable responstimes.

Experiment and find out which option works best for you.

Whichever method you prefer to do the search the result is presented in the right list of the Find Membership dialog window. If you want to generate a report of your search, click on the "Report" button and specify (or accept the suggested filename).
